Newly Discovered Mayan Calendar Goes Way Past 2012



I view The Mayan Spring as a time to recognize the beginning of a new cycle where positive change will begin. While the rest of the world will be watching the country of Guatemala, commonly known as the land of eternal spring, it’s the perfect opportunity for the indigenous Mayans. It’s a time to celebrate their history and more importantly, their future. It’s my time to give focus to a significant social issue that continually stunts the population of Guatemala, malnutrition.

Newly discovered wall writings found in Guatemala show the famed Maya culture's obsession with cycles of time. But they also show calendars that go well beyond 2012, the year when the vanished civilization, according to popular culture, expected the end of the world.
