Half of Children Under Age 5 in Central America’s Most Populous Country Suffer from Chronic Malnutrition

Above is a Guatemalan girl that lives in Chicago.
She wanted to help Mayan Spring by showing
her concern for nutrition and the effect it has
on her homeland.
Hello all of you reading this post,

Here at Mayan Spring, we continually try to inform our readers of the efforts and/or non-efforts being made to alleviate child malnutrition in Guatemala. Research has shown that lack of nutrition creates a barrier for children to reach their learning potential in the classroom along with future health risks. Here is an article from the Food and Nutrition Information Center where you can read further about the Role of Nutrition in Learning and Behavior. This is something that not only effects a child, a family or a village; it effects the overall economic development of a country.

This quote is what I find to be the most striking that many would not even be aware of... "One of the worst places in the world for chronic child malnutrition is not found in the brown deserts of Africa, but in the green mountains of Latin America," said Carlos Carrazana, Save the Children's Chief Operating Officer. If you are interested in reading the following article from it's original source, it can be found herePlease read on to become aware of the partnerships being made to open a goat–raising center!

Thank you for your continued support as a reader, a donor, and a friend!
